  Trauma Therapy Costs

How much does it cost?

This is one of the practical considerations when visiting a trauma therapist.

For those who are covered by an insurance plan, are able to pay independently or have access to a non-profit trauma care community service some of the concern is lessened. If you work for a company or are covered on a company plan by a family member you will need to check what and who is covered. Many larger companies have Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) that offer several sessions at no cost to the employee or family member. You should ask the Employee Assistance intake person if they can refer you to someone who has skills in the area of post-trauma care. Or you can search our database and see if one of our skilled professionals also works for the EAP where you have coverage.

There are certain regions that have excellent community based programs, where there are no fees to be paid. However, when this is not the case, knowing exactly what the costs are and what is covered within these costs is crucial.

Ensure that the counselor informs you of any assessment costs, the cost of a therapy session, whether they take insurance or have licensing that would allow you to be reimbursed by your benefits package (if you have one). You will also want to know about the type of therapy they offer (whether you can receive therapy in their office, on the phone, e-counseling) or whatever treatment approach you need prior to setting the appointment. You don’t want any surprises so ask before meeting with the therapist.

Although we appreciate that trauma therapy can be expensive, getting the right help in a timely manner can mean the difference between years of emotional strain and discomfort or recovery and enjoyment in life.
